homemade natural laundry detergent recipes

Making your own laundry detergent is one of the easiest ways you can go nontoxic right away.

It is also super cost effective which is a great bonus. By my estimate, you can save around $0.15 per load using natural homemade laundry soap. Yay!

Here, I have given you 3 easy peasy homemade laundry detergent recipes that you can make. Literally today.

Love some scent to your clothes? Just switch out the Dr. Bronner's unscented soap bar for a Dr. Bronner's all natural scented one! (My fav is Lavender).

It couldn't get any easier than this!

DIY Homemade Laundry Detergent Powder

This is my tried and true detergent and the one I use the most often. It is easier than the liquid version with less steps and less time.

This version contains a naturally occurring mineral called borax. After doing extensive research, I personally believe that borax is as safe to use for a laundry detergent, and that it makes the detergent more effective in cleaning my clothes.

Most of the negative research for borax actually involves boric acid. However, since there is some controversy whether borax is safe, I have included a borax free laundry soap below for those that would rather use that.

Total Time:

10 minutes

Loads:

About 40

USE

  • 1 heaping Tbsp per regular load.
  • Be sure to add powder to water so it can dissolve before adding clothes.

Want to label your container with cute chalkboard labels like you see in the video? You can find them here.

DIY Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent

This detergent contains basically the same ingredients as the powdered version, but it is in liquid form. The powdered version is a bit easier to make, but the liquid version does actually work a bit better.

  • Stir until dissolved.

DIY Homemade Laundry Detergent Without Borax

Once again, here is the borax free version of powdered laundry soap for those that prefer it.
